Hi! We’re Ellen & Laura and we’re the gals behind Mother Juice. It’s hard to believe that we started this business over ten years ago — just a couple of Boston born women with a shared love for green juice. Back then, there were no cold pressed juice bars in Boston and we knew we needed to change that. With a couple of our favorite recipes in hand, we invested in a high end cold pressed machine and sold our first juice at a farmers’ market in 2012. That first sale set us on a journey to spread love through healthy food and it soon became clear that what started as a side hustle would quickly become our life’s work.
We grew our operations from our stand at the farmers’ market to a juice truck on wheels. Our food truck — a 1992 Step Van — was what you’d call “rustic”. We learned an awful lot about the grind of the mobile food business that first year but each month we said, if we could pay our bills and we still loved what we were doing, we’d keep going. Fast forward to today we now have locations in Harvard Square, the Boston Public Market, the Back Bay, the Financial District and Logan Airport. Our menu has expanded to include vegetarian salads, plant-based breakfast bowls and an ever evolving array of feel good treats.
We’ve experienced highs and lows (oh hey, 2020) and everything in between. We’ve celebrated big life events, had a couple of kids (looking at you, Ellen) & started a new business (looking at you, Laura). We’ve grown up and older in many ways but at our core not much has changed. We are still a couple of fruit and veggie enthusiasts who love to experiment and are simply enjoying the ride.
Most importantly, our incredible team continues to be at the heart of what we do and our customers remain the reason why we do it. This eclectic group of good people has helped us build a welcoming and inclusive environment, where customers become friends and everyone is treated with compassion and respect. We are thankful for the journey and everyone we’ve met along the way — cannot wait to see where it heads next.
